1 CVQO BTEC PROJECT BRIEF TO ATC CADETS

2 BACKGROUND  As a Cadet, you may parade 2 to 4 hours per week plus weekends and Camps for three years or more  This equals the time spent studying for a number of GCSEs/Standard Grades  During your training you will complete the training syllabus and possibility other qualifications such as gliding, flying, canoeing and so on  This is not understood by the outside world in terms of its value or your achievement.

3 It is now possible to gain a qualification which takes account of all your Cadet achievements and is recognised outside the Cadet organisation

4 THE BTEC FIRST DIPLOMA IN PUBLIC SERVICES

5 This BTEC Award equates to 4 GCSEs at Grade A* to C and 4 Standard Grades at levels 1 to 3 in Scotland

6 What do you have to do?

7 Stay in cadets beyond your 16th birthday

8 CompleteanApplicationForm

9 How Does the Award work? Complete 6 Units  The Public Services  Public Service Skills  Public Service Fitness  Outdoor Activities & the Public Services  Land Navigation with Map & Compass  Expedition Skills

10 Each Unit, and the overall Diploma will be graded:PassMeritDistinction

11 You will then do (or will have already done) most of the work you need to do as part of your normal ATC training

12 Actual work involved: Pass 1 st Class & Leading Cadet Physical Activity (DOE Physical Section) Expedition Training Map & Compass

13 What else?  2 Adventurous Training Activities

14 AND PPASS A WING NCO COURSE communications leadership teamwork

15 There is some additional time needed to:  Complete Unit 1 Project (IVA) This requires some additional work between October and February  Answer some questions on Teamwork  Answer some questions on Nutrition  Answer questions on Outdoor Activities  Answer questions on Leadership  Give a 5 minute presentation A Resource Book will be issued to help you

16 What is the Unit 1 Project?  Roles and Responsibilities of Public Services (RAF and one other eg Army)  Jobs within the Public Services (RAF)  Application and Selection Process (RAF)  Entry Requirements and Career Development (RAF)

17 ACHIEVING A PASS  All 6 Units have to be Attempted  Most Units combine extra written work with cadet syllabus.  YOU HAVE TO PASS BOTH ASPECTS TO ACHIEVE A PASS

18 What can help you gain a Merit or Distinction?  The Unit 1 Project  Leadership Course grade  Representational Sport (ATC or School)  DofE Bronze, Silver or Gold Expeditions  Your answers to the workbook questions  Additional Outdoor Activities

19 HOW TO APPLY  Fill in an Application Form  Give it to your Wing HQ  They send it to CVQO once they have signed it.  You can download the Application Form
