January 24 – 30, 2010 “If the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.” (Ezekiel 33:6, New International Version) Weekly World Watch Andy Walton’s To skip the introductory slides and go straight to this weeks developments click here.

What is a Weekly World Watch? Israel: The continuing conflict in the Middle East and focus on Jerusalem. Europe: Its developing union, both political and religious. Russia: Its return to anti-Western ways as Bible prophecy’s “king of the north.” The UK and the US: Bible prophecy’s “king of the south.” Moral standards in decline and violence on the increase. WWW presentations in PowerPoint can be ordered as audio/visual CDs by clicking here. Move your mouse to place the cursor on the blue link and click.clicking here The idea is simple. It is to look at current events and compare them to events spoken of in the Bible.. I hope to build up a picture of God’s hand working in the affairs of this world. God is bringing about a day when all nations will be gathered to Jerusalem to battle. At that time God will send His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, back to this earth. Jesus will then establish God’s kingdom on earth. This kingdom will last for ever. This is our hope and the reason we watch. Increasing natural disasters: including earthquake, famine etc The following six themes will appear repeatedly in WWW:

HEADLINE EVENT COMMENT News Photo The source of the headline and the date are included. Each WWW looks at a few key developments that have happened during the past week. It is in no way meant to be exhaustive – just a look at those events I saw as significant from a Biblical point of view. What is in a Weekly World Watch? BIBLE QUOTE This is normally one verse which backs up why the event that has occurred is interesting from a Biblical perspective. Please read in its context. Unless stated otherwise, all quotes are from the King James Version. (Book, chapter, and verse) This is straight from a news report that caught my eye because it looked significant from a Biblical perspective, usually that of prophecy. Every WWW event slide has the following format. To reveal each block of text just left click your mouse or press the space bar. You control when it appears. This is the reporter’s description of the event. It is always a direct quotation from the news report and reflects the understanding of the reporter and editors. This is my comment on why the event is interesting to a Bible student. The intention of the WWW is to offer brief Biblical perspectives without going into detail. If more detail is desired, please e-mail me: (andy@weeklyworldwatch.co.uk).

Israel to keep parts of West Bank forever Netanyahu claims key West Bank settlements as Israeli forever, angering Palestinians. Israel's leader declared his country's permanent claim to parts of the West Bank on Sunday, angering Palestinians again and complicating efforts by President Barack Obama's Mideast envoy though the same claim was also made by previous, more moderate premiers. Timing and context lent weight to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to two Jewish settlements and his declaration that they would remain in Israel forever. He planted a tree at one of them Maaleh Adumim, home to about 30,000 Israelis about two miles (three kilometres) from Jerusalem a symbolic act of ownership. "Our message is clear: We are planting here, we will stay here, we will build here. This place will be an inseparable part of the state of Israel for eternity," Netanyahu proclaimed, just as envoy George Mitchell was trying to restart peace talks after a yearlong stalemate. Associated Press, January 24, 2010 EVENT COMMENT I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land. BIBLE QUOTE (Joel 3:2) The so called West Bank is the area of land Israel captured in the Six Day War in 1967. It was always land that was part of ancient Israel as demarcated by God himself. The United Nations says that this land is now occupied territory. It is the land that America (and all other nations) believe should be handed over to the Palestinians. When we read of Netanyahu making bold statements about keeping parts of the West Bank forever – he is only speaking about very small settlements that are only a few miles from Jerusalem. The leaders of Israel have conceded that in any final settlement the majority of the West Bank would be handed over. All nations want Israel divided.

Netanyahu commemorates 65 years since liberation of Auschwitz I want to thank the Government of Poland for the historic effort it is making to commemorate the greatest catastrophe that befell my people and the greatest crime committed against humanity. The voices of millions of my people gassed, burned and killed in a thousand different ways rise out of this cursed ground. In the final moment of their lives, many whispered or cried out the timeless words of our ancient people: Hear O Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is One. Perhaps a few used their final breath to chant another age-old prayer: Remember what Amalek did to you. Never forget! We will always remember what Amalek’s Nazi heirs did to you. We will be prepared to defend ourselves when a new Amalek appears on the stage of history and threatens again to annihilate the Jews. We, the Jewish nation, who lost a third of our people on Europe’s blood-soaked soil, have learned that the only guarantee for defending our people is a strong State of Israel and the army of Israel. Prime Ministers Office (translated from Hebrew), January 27, 2010 EVENT COMMENT And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi: For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation. BIBLE QUOTE (Exodus 17:15,16) These words were spoken by the Prime Minister of Israel in Poland as he remembered the 65 th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. At least one million people were killed there – 90% of them Jews. It is interesting Netanyahu refers repeatedly to Amalek. The Amalekites were descendants of Esau. We read in Exodus that they attacked the Hebrews when they left Egypt "smiting the hindmost, and all that were feeble.” In Exodus 17 we read of a great battle between Amalek and Israel. Following Israel’s remarkable victory we read that God will have war on Amalek from generation to generation. The Nazis are a type of Amalek picking on the feeble Jew. But where are they now? Destroyed by God!

Iran leader predicts destruction of Israel As Netanyahu addressed the world from the site of the most prolific genocide factory in human history, at the place where over a million Jews were gassed, starved, beaten, raped, frozen, shot and hanged and then burned in ovens, Iran's leaders were declaring loudly that they intend to finish what the Nazis started. They will destroy the Jewish people. Iran's dictator supremo Ali Khamenei used a photo-op with Mauritania's President Mohammed Ould Abdel Aziz - who cut his own country's diplomatic ties with Israel last January - to renew his pledge to commit yet another Holocaust. As he put it, "Surely, the day will come when the nations of the region will witness the destruction of the Zionist regime... When the destruction happens will depend on how the Islamic nations approach the issue." Associated Press, January 27, 2010 EVENT COMMENT Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. BIBLE QUOTE (Luke 21:27,28) On Monday, Germany's Der Speigel reported that evidence gleaned from document intercepts and from the testimony of two senior Iranian defectors who were involved in the Islamic Republic's nuclear program, proves beyond a reasonable doubt that Iran's nuclear program is not a peaceful one. In the wake of the Der Spiegel report, the EU's foreign ministers got together and decided not to support any new sanctions against Iran - unless they are passed by the UN Security Council. China said this week it would veto any sanctions against Iran. And so the stage is being set for the second holocaust to take place. Iran will be involved. We know that another holocaust is coming. Two thirds living in Israel will die. There are terrible days of war and destruction ahead but they culminate in the return of Jesus. And so we should not fear but look up – our redemption draws nigh…

Analysis: Lebanon: Conflict widens to Syria Any future strike at Hezbollah that does not take into account its status as a client of Syria, is unlikely to land a decisive blow. In the last week, senior Israeli policymakers made statements of an uncharacteristically bellicose nature regarding Syria. It is unlikely that these statements were made because of sudden random irritation toward Israel's hostile northeastern neighbour. Rather, the statements probably constituted part of a message of deterrence to Damascus. Hezbollah has in the last weeks deployed advanced Syrian-made surface-to- surface M-600 missiles on the territory of Lebanon. The missiles, which according to Jane's Defence Weekly are copies of the Iranian Fateh-110 system, have a range of 250 kilometres and carry a 500-kg warhead. They bring the entirety of central Israel within Hezbollah's range. The missiles are precision-guided, meaning that in the event of renewed conflict, Hezbollah would be able to use them to target military facilities or heavily populated areas. Syria's undaunted and increased support for Hezbollah appears to reflect a clear strategic turn taken by Damascus. Jerusalem Post, January 28, 2010 EVENT COMMENT For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes; Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; BIBLE QUOTE (Psalm 83:5-7) It is certain that at some point Hezbollah and Israel will be at war again. The build-up of missiles in Lebanon by this terrorist group is testament to this. Psalm 83 has a latter day fulfilment. It speaks of nations surrounding Israel wanting to “cut them off being a nation”. (One of those nations is Amalek!) The inhabitants of Tyre are mentioned as well. Hezbollah’s main stronghold is in Tyre and they definitely want to bring the nation of Israel to an end. The links between Hezbollah and Syria are beyond doubt. Therefore Israel is increasingly warning Syria that it will be held accountable if / when war breaks out. The events of Psalm 83 come before the invasion of Gog.

Israel: 'Tens of Thousands Could Die in Quake' The Knesset Interior Committee and a subcommittee of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee held a joint session Tuesday morning on the dangers of an upcoming earthquake in Israel and ways to deal with them. The ACBI presented a position paper warning of an apocalyptic situation that could result from the next quake to hit Israel. “A million apartments and thousands of public buildings could collapse in the event of a strong earthquake,” according to the ACBI. “The current national plan to reinforce apartment buildings [known as Tama 38] does not help Israel’s preparedness for earthquakes.” Earthquakes have occurred in Israel on the average of once every 80 years in recent centuries. Israel sits on one of the largest fault lines in the world (the Syria-Africa Rift) and it is a certainty that a major earthquake will eventually strike the region. Israel National News, January 26, 2010 EVENT COMMENT And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, … And the idols he shall utterly abolish. And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth. The earthquake in Haiti has been like an advanced warning system for those living in Israel. The devastation in Haiti has made the Association of Contractors and Builders (ACBI) in Israel warn the government of what will happen if an earthquake strikes in the Holy Land. “An apocalyptic situation” they say would result from the next major quake to hit Israel. We know that an earthquake is coming. It has long been prophesied to happen. It is an earthquake centred on Israel. It will cause every wall in all the earth to fall to the ground. (Ezekiel 38:20) The earth will reel like a drunken man. (Isaiah 24:20) The mount of Olives will split down the middle. (Zechariah 14:4). Haiti should sound to all mankind as an early warning system. It is flashing right now and is telling us that what we have witnessed there is about to be repeated – globally. BIBLE QUOTE (Isaiah 2:17-19)

UK: ‘Tell pupils being gay is normal’ Schools should teach children that homosexuality is normal and civil partnerships have as much value as marriage, David Cameron has said. The Conservative leader said that equal treatment for homosexual people should be “embedded” in teaching. Nick Clegg, the Liberal Democrat leader, has said that children attending faith schools should be taught that homosexuality is “normal and harmless” and criticised the Tories on homosexual equality. The Liberal Democrats have repeatedly criticised Mr Cameron and his party over their previous support for Section 28 of the Local Government Act, which in 1988 banned the promotion of homosexuality in schools. Mr Cameron last year apologised for his party’s actions over Section 28 and insisted the party has changed. Daily Telegraph, January 27, 2010 EVENT COMMENT Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire. BIBLE QUOTE (Jude verse 7 NIV) Homosexuality is NOT normal behaviour – it is abnormal. It is NOT harmless it is destructive and causes disease. It is behaviour that God calls an abomination. It was not long ago when the laws of Britain forbade the promotion of this type of sin to our children in UK schools. Now every major political party in the UK supports the promotion of homosexuality. It is sexual immoralitiy and a perversion. Note how it is couched in terms of EQUALITY. Everyone is equal they say. If a man and woman can marry then it is not equal if two men cannot marry. If a school teaches about family life with a father and mother, it is not equal if we do not promote other types of families. I.e. 2 lesbian women brining up a child etc. It is this godless, human teaching mentioned in Revelation 16:13,14. They are the froglike spirit teachings that gather all nations to judgement – to Armageddon itself.
