Ku Klux Klan From the Greek “Kuklos” meaning never ending circle The “Klan” was a secret organization founded in 1865 in Pulaski, Tennessee Started as a social club for former Confederate soldiers returning from the war. Members hid behind robes and masks, and the group terrorized blacks and their Republican allies to keep them from voting. The Klan wanted to return control of state governments to Southern Democrats. 11. Ku Klux Klan KKK activities increase throughout GA and the south, and there was evidence that the KKK had prevented many blacks from voting in the presidential election of 1868. GA Governor Rufus Bullock asks the federal govt. to help him stop the Klan. Congress then passes “The Georgia Act” in Dec. 1869, and sends troops back to Georgia FOR A THIRD TIME AFTER THE CIVIL WAR!!!!!! GA now has to pass the 15 th Amendment giving all males the right to vote.15 th Amendment C
