2 Made certain shoes for men and women. Carved the shoe sizes out of wood for the bottom of their foot. Put leather around it for leg size. Took the wood out. Put a flat piece of wood for foot to rest on, then put leather around.

3 Leather Wood Nails Wooden measuring ruler Hand-made hammers and wooden tools “Petty Boys”, “St. Hugh’s Bones”, “Helling Sticks” were complete tool kits for shoes.

4 Leather boots for men. Safety nails to hold the bottom of the shoe up. Wood for there foot to lay on. Hammer for bringing shoe together. Measuring ruler made out of wood for foot size.

5 Shoemakers follow century – old tradition for making shoes. The first shoemaker arrived in America in 1610. In 1661, the Virginia assembly directed that each country must erect one or more tanneries and shoe manufactories. They made a lot of leather boots for men. The shoemaker shop is usually owned by men too.
