2 Findings and Trims Finding- all components of a garment except the body fabric. Includes: trim, labels, threads, elastics, underlying fabric, zippers, buttons, other closures, ect. Trim- Subdivision of findings- decorative materials that adorn garments. Including: ribbons, braids, laces, appliqués, flowers, beads, sequins, and other decorative details.

3 Braids Intertwining a set of yarns according to a definite pattern to form a narrow fabric. Types:Soutache, Middy, Loop, Scrolling, Gimp, Rickrack.

4 Appliqués Decorative fabric patches applied to the garment. Usually with fusible backed fabric, ironed on and attached with stitches.

5 Non Fabric trims Beads Sequins Rhinestones Rivets Flowers Feathers Jewels Peals

6 Zipper Conventional- most common in RTW. Pants Separating- two unattached halves Jackets Invisible- chain of zipper in concealed beneath the tape when zipper is closed.

9 Mis. Findings and Trims Elastic Belts Shoulder pads Collar stays Bra Cups Boning Hoops/Bustle Horse hair Weight Dress shield

10 Closures Buttons 1. Eyed 2. Self covered 3. Shank 4. toggle

11 Lace Narrow lace fabric. Types: Insertion, Galloon, Edging, Beading, Medallion.

13 Pockets Patch or applied- pieces of fabric attached like a patch, outside of the garment. Casual- used in back jean pocket, front of shirts, ect.

14 In Seam Pocket In seam- set into a seam of the garment. Usually in the side seam of skirts, pants, dresses.

15 Slashed Pocket Single Welt-one lip 1/2 inch wide Double Welt- two lips 1/4 inch wide

16 Flap Flap- have a flap of fabric above the pocket. The flap extends down over the pocket opening. Fake flap pocket- not functional. Upturned flap- Extends up not down is seen in tailored jackets.

19 Cuffs Cuffs- banded or turned back finishes at the lower edge of a sleeve and pant leg. Open band cuffs:has an opening 1. Barrel or shirt cuff 2. Convertible cuff 3. French cuff Closed band cuffs- unbroken ring of fabric
