2 Know the Value of Your Local Hospital Last year, Michigan community hospitals: admitted nearly 1.2 million people provided care during more than 30 million outpatient visits experienced 4.6 million emergency room visits delivered more than 107,000 babies >

3 Protect Hospital Services Michigan’s Medicaid caseload is nearly 2 million people and more than 1.2 million additional residents are without health insurance. Michigan hospitals provided more than $2.6 billion in community benefits in fiscal year (FY) 2011 more than $882 million in uncompensated care – more than $366 million in financial assistance at cost – nearly $516 million in uncollectable funds NAME OF HOSPITAL $XXXX in uncompensated care in YEAR

4 The Medicaid program is a lifesaver. It provides millions of Michigan citizens with health care coverage that ensures they receive critical services like immunizations, prenatal care and more. Expanding Medicaid would help ensure more affordable, appropriate care for roughly 450,000 Michiganians, while saving state taxpayers up to $1 billion over 10 years. The Health Insurance Exchange (HIX) will empower consumers. It will expand health care benefits to Michigan residents by giving individuals and small businesses access to insurance through a competitive, private market. Support Medicaid Expansion & HIX

5 Health care is Michigan’s largest private-sector employer. It provides more than 558,800 direct jobs. Hospital and health care workers earn $31.4 billion in wages, salaries and benefits annually. Michigan must continue to invest in hospital programs like graduate medical education that ensure the next generation of health care professionals in our state. Every dollar Michigan invests in its Medicaid program generates an additional $1.98 in federal matching funds.
