Stamp Act Congress In New York City colonists write King George III letter explaining why they think the Stamp Act is unfair – “No Taxation without Representation!!!” – Not a single colonist in British Lawmaking group What is that? Parliament

King George III Response Takes away Stamp Act!!! Passes Declaratory Act- 1765 – Says Parliament has a right to tax colonists. Passes Townshend Act- 1767 – New tax on paint, glass, lead, paper, and tea Money will be used for debt and to pay for British soldiers in the colonies

Colonist Point of View This is worse than the Stamp Act!!! – Why? More items Needs rather than wants

British Point of View We took the Stamp Act away but still need to pay off debt We will try a different tax to see if this will work better for the colonists Colonists complain A LOT!!!
