The Library A fly-on-the-wall documentary filmed at the Enterprise Library and Information Service April 2005 PART TWO

The Customers Today we will be meeting some of the Enterprise Library and Information Service customers.

The Customer Interviews The film crew interviewed some representatives from the different groups that Enterprise LIS serves, to find out what they think of the library. Here are some soundbites which should give you an insight into what type of customers these individuals are…

Charles Challenge “I quite often come into the library, either in my capacity as a GP or for my role as a lecturer. I am generally happy with the service, although I have had a few discussions shall we say regarding some of their policies. You know, such as the length of time I can have something or if I am charged for it being late. I have a very busy professional life and this can sometimes prevent me from getting to the library on time.” [GP, East Enterprise Surgery & Lecturer in Primary Care, Enterprise University]

Libby Champion “What do I think of the library? I think it’s fantastic and the staff are always really helpful whenever I come in looking for books. I don’t come into the library as regularly as I would like but yes it is usually if I want to borrow something particular, I don’t tend to get involved with these computer things, I just don’t have the time to mess about like that. I usually know exactly what I am looking for and will ask the staff if I can not find it.” [GP, Enterprise Medical Centre]

Hannah Hold “I’ve only just started University really and I sometimes struggle to find my way round. The library is such a big place and it is really difficult to find things. The computers and the photocopier and everything never work for me, I always take much longer than everyone else. I do come into the library a lot to study as I find it a nice quiet place to work, much quieter than the University library.” [First Year Medical Student, Enterprise University]

Laura Last-Minute “I have a very busy job and I don’t always know what I’m going to be doing from one day to the next, so it is not that often that I will physically go into the library itself. I probably ring them more than go in in person. It’s usually health promotion stuff that I’m wanting, you know leaflets and that for particular patients.” [Health Visitor, Enterprise Surgery]

Simon Self “Yeah, I’m in my final year so I always find myself in the library for one reason or another. It has been good when I have been on my placements as it’s near where I’ve been working. I tend to just get on and get stuff myself you know, I don’t usually ask the librarians for help. I mean that’s what it’s all about isn’t it, finding your own way round…” [Final Year Nursing Student, Enterprise University]

Brian Unaware “The library? To be honest I can’t remember the last time I went in there. Probably the last time I had a meeting in this building. I sometimes come in beforehand to use the copier, you know if I have forgotten something or need extra papers or something like that, but apart from that I don’t really ever need it.” [Practice Manager, West Enterprise Medical Centre]
