3 By the end of this presentation, you should understand how to prepare staff and students for the online assessments; and AIR’s public-facing systems used for administering online assessments. These include: Test Information Distribution Engine (TIDE) Test Delivery System (TDS) Online Reporting System (ORS) Objectives 2

4 All students enrolled in grades 3–8 and 11 are required to participate in the Smarter Balanced summative mathematics test except:  Students with the most significant cognitive disabilities who meet the state’s criteria for a mathematics alternate assessment based on alternate achievement standards (approximately one percent or less of the student population). All students enrolled in grades 3–8 and 11 are required to participate in the Smarter Balanced summative English language arts/literacy (ELA) test except:  Students with the most significant cognitive disabilities who meet the state’s criteria for the English language arts/literacy alternate assessment based on alternate achievement standards (approximately one percent or less of the student population).  English Language Learners (ELLs) who enrolled within the 12 months prior to the beginning of testing in a U.S. school have a one-time exemption. These students may instead participate in their state’s English language proficiency assessment consistent with state and federal policy. 7 Notify School and District Test Coordinators, as well as educators, students, and parents about the test. Notify IT staff that they should review the Technical Specifications Manual and view the Technology Requirements for Online Testing training module. Participate in training opportunities. Start determining testing schedules. Compile information about necessary student accessibility resources. Refer to the Smarter Balanced Usability, Accessibility, and Accommodations Guidelines at www.smarterbalanced.org. Consult your portal for resource materials and information about specific policies and procedures related to training and preparation for online tests. Preparing for the Online Test 6

14 Secure Browser

15  The secure browser prevents students from accessing other computer or Internet applications and copying test information during testing.  Training and practice tests can be accessed with either the secure browser or with Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer 10 and 11, or most native tablet web browsers.  Your portal will have information about installing the secure browser.
