Muench INVOCATION MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Photos by Butch Shadwell Lea’s Place Lea’s Place is a volunteer center where The Dept. Of Children & Families take children who have been removed from abusive/neglectful situations or have been abandoned. They are now collecting old & new backpacks, nonperishable food, clothing, small toys, shoes, car seats, hygiene products, and gift certificates to Walmart, Target, and fast food restaurants. Amanda Ludy, President of the UNF Circle K club spoke to us about their upcoming “Backpack Drive” in the spring semester for Lea’s Place. They are now collecting old & new backpacks, nonperishable food, clothing, small toys, shoes, car seats, hygiene products, and gift certificates to Walmart, Target, and fast food restaurants. Please bring your donated items each week to the meetings. Butch Shadwell is in charge of collection. Lea’s Place Volunteer Program is in need of volunteers to sit with detained children, supervise court ordered family visits, provide office support, and assist private investigators. He is actively involved with the Navy League, currently on the Mayport Council Board of Directors. He is the Commander General Elect of the Naval Order of the United States. He is also the National Chairman for the Naval Order of the Navy D-Day Monument Project. He belongs to the Naval Academy Alumni Association and the Military Officers Association of America. Captain Gregory F. Streeter, USN (Ret) Honoring Our Navy At Normandy T he total cost to manufacture, transport, and dedicate the Monument is estimated at $500,000. The Monument will be entirely privately funded with no government involvement. (Model by sculptor Stephen Spears of Fairhope, Alabama) T he US Navy is the only military service that does not have a Memorial to the thousands of US sailors that participated, and the many who made the supreme sacrifice, in the liberation of Europe. The Naval Order of the United States is leading the drive to erect a Monument to the U.S. Navy at 'Utah Beach' in Normandy, France commemorating the Navy's participation in the greatest amphibious invasion in history. (June 6, 1944) The goal is to dedicate this Monument on September 27, 2008.
