3 Vincenette DURAND Septembre 2007 5 apprentice training centres (CFA): Brest, Rennes, Saint-Malo, Vannes and Quimper 2600 trainees (16% of regional number of trainees) On average, 75% of candidates are successful on their exams 85 % of trainees find a job within 6 months after finishing their apprenticeship Close cooperation with 5 CFAs within the network of Chamber of Crafts of Brittany representing 6800 trainees Training for young peolple: apprenticeship MaÎtre à mentoring

4 Vincenette DURAND Septembre 2007 MaÎtre à mentoring An education approved and highly appreciated by companies as well as state administration An implementation with emphasis on school(CFA)– company training alternation and employment contract Length of the education: from 1 to 3 years (the level of high school and college) for young people from 16 to 25 years All professional areas Education in apprenticeship

5 MaÎtre à mentoring Vincenette DURAND Septembre 2007 MaÎtre à mentoring Welcome and integrate the trainee in the company Organize different activities connected to trainee’s field of apprenticeship in the company Impart professional knowledge Evaluate trainee’s progress and confirm his/her skills Manage the alternation with the educational training centre The crucial person in apprenticeship, the “Maître d’apprentissage” (tutor), is bound to:

6 MaÎtre à mentoring Vincenette DURAND Septembre 2007 MaÎtre à mentoring Official report: high rate of apprenticeship contracts are dissolved (30% on average) This dissolution is interpreted differently by companies (or tutors) and trainees The core of the matter: The relationship between the trainee and his/her tutor and also the tutor’s ability to give sense to the vocational training Possible difficulties in the implementation of apprenticeship:

8 MaÎtre à mentoring Vincenette DURAND Septembre 2007 MaÎtre à mentoring With the project Maître, the Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Brittany will: Create a working group (October 2007) of CFA directors in order to: - Establish a pedagogical method to train the trainers within - Use tutors skills frame of reference determined with the partners of the project Maître - Integrate some modules from Maître manual Implementation of the project Maître

9 MaÎtre à mentoring Vincenette DURAND Septembre 2007 MaÎtre à mentoring With the project Maître, the Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Brittany will: Test the pedagogical method on a pilot group Spread the method to the network of 9 CFAs, Chambers of Commerce and Chambers of Crafts, See to it that trained tutors will be monitored in their own company Implementation of the project Maître

10 MaÎtre à mentoring Vincenette DURAND Septembre 2007 MaÎtre à mentoring Using this pedagogical method, The Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Brittany hopes to contribute to the reduction of high dissolution of apprenticeship contracts
