After this presentation you should be able to… Remember a list of items without having to write them down. Share this tool/technique with your students to help them prepare for exam where they have to shore short term formulas and items. Teach the technique to your children, friends, nieces, friend’s children, Friend’s children’s nieces…etc.

What is IRA? Impression. Repetition Association Creating a strong, clear, and exaggerated mental image that can be repeated over and over. The more senses you can use, the better.

What is parallel association and how is it pegged? Memory pegging has been around since the 1600s. Dale Carnegie adapted memory pegging by creating a parallel with the IRA method and systematic numeric association using highly sensorial mental image and pegging details to organize specific lists of information. For example: the number ONE rhymes with RUN.

You can rhyme or associate any number of visual images. ONE….RUN TWO….SHOE THREE…TREE FOUR…DOOR FIVE….HIVE SIX….SICK SEVEN….HEAVEN EIGHT….GATE NINE….WINE TEN….DEN ELEVEN…LEAVEN TWELVE….SHELF THIRTEEN…HURTING FOURTEEN…COURTIN G FIFTEEN…LIFTING AND SO ON…..

CREATE VISUAL IMAGES For each number and rhyming word, you will now create a visual image. The more action and absurd the picture is, the easier it will be to retrieve the pegged item that you wish to remember. Example: for the number 1 you may want to visualize different colored horses running around a track, you might picture the horses talking but they absolutely have to be running because that is how we will remember to associate the first picture on our list. It doesn’t matter if the teachers picture matches the student picture. The key is that it’s a constant picture that we can use over and over.

Create a mental image for each number below. ONE….RUN TWO….SHOE THREE…TREE FOUR…DOOR FIVE….HIVE SIX….SICK SEVEN….HEAVEN EIGHT….GATE NINE….WINE TEN….DEN ELEVEN…LEAVEN TWELVE….SHELF THIRTEEN…HURTING FOURTEEN…COURTING FIFTEEN…LIFTING Remember to make it colorful with lots of action and
