The IB Diploma Program is a comprehensive and rigorous pre-university course of study for the highly motivated secondary student. It was designed to develop the individual talents of young people molding them into truly well-rounded, well-educated individuals who are aware that they are members of a complex, global society.

Requirements of the IB Program for obtaining the IB Diploma:
Over the course of 2 years students will complete: 6 Exams – subject to registration & exam costs Extended Essay that requires a staff advisor CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) that requires a staff advisor

WHS Pre-IB Application Process
Must Meet 2 Criteria: Have a 3.00 GPA in Core Academic Courses at the 8th grade level. Have completed Algebra I by the end of 8th grade. Complete & submit application & a copy of 1st semester report card by February 11.

Pre-IB Ninth Grade Schedule Options:
Summer School - 1 Core Academic Course (Biology H or World History H –Tuition Based (taken summer prior to or after 9th grade) Grade 9: 4 Core Academic Courses (2 of the following: Biology H, World History H, or Math and English 1H and World Language) PE Elective Core Academic Courses –No Additional Core Academic Course May Be Taken during the 9th Grade Year!

International Baccalaureate Career-related Program (IBCP)
Walnut High School is now an authorized school for the IB Career-related Program. The IBCP consists of an IB course requirement, IBCP Core component and a career-related component. The IBCP at WHS focuses on Biomedical Sciences as it’s career Component

Project Lead the Way Career Component : Biomedical Sciences – Four Courses
Principles of the Biomedical Sciences (PBS) – 10th Grade Study of human body systems and health conditions Human Body Systems (HBS) – 11th Grade Exploring science in action, students build organs and tissues on a skeletal manikin and play the role of biomedical professionals to solve medical mysteries

Project Lead the Way Career Component : Biomedical Sciences – Four Courses
Medical Interventions (MI) – 12th Grade Investigation of interventions involved in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease Biomedical Innovation (BI) – 12th Grade Students design innovative solutions for the health challenges of the 21st century

Summer School Registration Information June 8 – July 16
Summer School is highly recommended but not required. More information on summer School can be found on the Walnut High School website under the Courtesy Link to the Dedicated to Learning Website by mid-February. Registration will begin the first week of March.
