Read a book of your choosing for ten minutes. Respond to the following question in your composition book. Which of the following critical theories would best apply to your reading today: Cultural, Feminist, or Marxist? You may refer to p. 340 – 342 in your SpringBoard books. Explain your response

3 3.7 The Moor With your acting company, scan Act I, scene i for derogatory references that other characters make about Othello without using his name. Record the references, the speaker, and the line number in the graphic organizer in SpringBoard page 176. As a class, share the references.

4 3.7 The Moor As a class, briefly characterize the language used to used to describe Othello (Is it complimentary? Is it derogatory?) What do the characters reveal about themselves by referring to Othello as they do? Record your conclusions in the graphic organizer on page 176.

5 3.7 The Moor As a class, discuss the following. What cultural motivations may be influencing how characters refer to Othello in Act I?

6 3.7 The Moor The terms used to describe Othello in Act I, scene i are spoken behind his back. Read Act I, scene ii in order to discover Othello’s response to some of these accusations. Record the accusation, accuser, Othello’s response, and what it reveals about Othello in the graphic organizer on page 177.

7 3.7 The Moor Read the character sketch of Reverend Jonathan Hale from The Crucible on page 177 and use as a model for a character sketch. Compose a character sketch that describes Othello at this point in the play and turn in for a daily grade. Draft your character sketch from a Cultural Critical Perspective. The character sketch must be between eight and ten sentences.

8 3.7 The Moor Review your study packet in order to prepare for the Act I quiz. The Act I quiz will be next class.
