2 What is a pronoun? A pronoun is a word that is used in place of a noun. You use pronouns all the time. In fact, the word “you” is a pronoun! When you talk about a group you are part of or yourself, you use the pronoun “we” or “I”. When you talk about your friends, members of your family or other people, you use the pronouns “he,” “she” and “they.” When you talk about things, you use the pronoun “it”.

3 Personal Pronouns Pronouns are used in place of nouns in a sentence so that you don’t have to keep repeating the noun. There are a few different kinds of pronouns. In this lesson, we are talking about personal pronouns. Personal pronouns have singular and plural forms. It isn’t hard to guess which is which.

4 Personal Pronouns Singular: I, me, you Male gender: he, his Female gender: she, her No gender: it Plural: we, us, they, them

5 Personal Pronouns 1. Beatrice will be going to the store later. She will be going to the store later. 2. Carlos got lost in the mirror maze. He got lost in the mirror maze. 3. 6 Possessive Personal Pronouns POSSESSIVE PERSONAL PRONOUNS: my, mine, your, yours, his, her, hers, its, our, ours, their, theirs ****Note that there are no apostrophes used with possessive personal pronouns. This includes "its." Just as you would say "That is hers," you would say "Success is its own reward." It's stands for the contraction that represents "It is" or "It has." It's is NEVER possessive.

7 Examples of Possessive Pronouns 1. This is Beatrice’s book. This is my book. 2.Marleen says that this pencil is Marleen’s. Marleen says that this pencil is hers.
