1 Module 6 Global ArcMap Lesson GDP – The Wealth of Nations

2 Brainstorming – Factors that determine a country’s developing status What makes a country developed or developing? What criteria should we use to judge? What parameters should we use of such criteria?

3 Discussion Questions 1. Which countries do we generally think of as highly industrialized?

4 Discussion Questions 2. Name several countries that have a high percentage of their workforce participating in agriculture.

5 Discussion Questions 3. Name a country that has a high percentage of its workforce participating in services?

6 Discussion Questions Hypothesize which countries you think will be classified as developed and developing?

7 Lesson Vocabulary Industry – manufacturing of hard or soft goods. Services – Duties paid for that do not result in receiving a good. Examples: Barber, Lawyer, Doctor, Mechanic, Banker Gross Domestic Product (GDP) – the value of all goods and services produced in the country in one year. GDP per capita – GDP divided by the population of a given country. Not an estimate of personal income.
