 Meet in the library tomorrow and Monday. Bring everything you’ll need to type up the first part of your group final essay (textbook, Nectar in a Sieve, Antigone Study Guide, any paragraphs you’ve started, your format outline, your sample paragraph, etc.)  Bring Nectar in a Sieve to the library tomorrow.  If you don’t need it for your final exam, return it as soon as you enter the library tomorrow.  Homework: Make sure each group member know what paragraph he/she is responsible for writing tonight so it can be typed up in the library tomorrow.  Each writer should write one body paragraph; if you have four members, have the fourth person write the introduction paragraph.

Reading 3.2 Compare and contrast the presentation of a similar theme or topic across genres to explain how the selection of genre shapes the theme or topic.

 When giving examples to support your comparisons in your body paragraphs, you want to be as SPECIFIC as possible (not vague).  Quotes are the best evidence, but when you don’t have a quote, summarize a specific event or happening in the story; be AS SPECIFIC WITH THE DETAILS as possible!

 Which would be great, good and the bad evidence for body paragraphs:  For example, in Nectar in a Sieve, Nathan reveals how he follows that status quo when he finds out that Ira has chosen to become a prostitute– a job that is not looked upon well in this society– and he insults her choice and commands for her to stop at once  For example, Nathan gets mad at Ira for being a prostitute.  For example, in Scene 1 of Antigone, the Chorus says, “When the laws are broken, what of his city then? Never may the anarchic man find rest at my hearth...” (pg. 1031)

Instead of comparing Nectar in a Sieve to Antigone, let’s say you were being asked to compare the food quality of McDonalds to In N’ Out. Which example sentence is the best and which is the worst? (Hint: which is the most specific and which is the least specific?) a. For example, McDonalds has bad food quality. b. For example, McDonalds is worse because it serves really old salads that are not fresh anymore. c. For example, McDonalds has worse food quality than Inn N’ Out because it often serves salads up to a week after they are made. d. McDonalds has worse food quality because most of the time, its food isn’t very good.

 Spend the rest of your time preparing for your group final exam essay by writing an outline of your essay.  If this were my group, I’d start off by writing a rough-draft of our introduction paragraph. THEN, I’d give everyone in my group one paragraph to write as homework so that we can type it, edit it, and add to it together on Thursday and Friday.

 Spend the rest of your time pre-writing or writing a rough draft for your introduction paragraph of your essay. Follow the essay organization format for this paragraph.

 ( HOOK): make a GENERAL statement about your topic that catches your readers’ attention.  (EXPLAIN/EXPAND): Expand upon the idea that you presented in the first sentence.  (BRIDGE): connect your hook to the two books.  (THESIS): Answer the question on the prompt and list what three things you will prove in your 3 body paragraphs.
