FOUNDATION “The ROCK”

FOUNDATION  The act of founding, fixing, establishing, or beginning to erect.  That upon which anything is founded; that on which anything stands, and by which it is supported; the lowest and supporting layer of a superstructure; groundwork; basis.

3 24"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash." 28When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law. Matthew 7:24-29

Kinds of Men

The “WISE MAN”  24"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  They are the ones who heard the word of God and OBEY them!

The “FOOLISH MAN”  26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.  Those who heard the word of God and do not obey them.

KINDS of FOUNDATION

SAND

 shaped by hands  It moves constantly when stepped on or touched.  winds and waves can destroy your sand castle that you worked hard for  Represents things in the world that is constantly changing.

ROCK

 Firm foundation  Better than a sand foundation  Represents a Person

Matthew 16:13-20  13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” 14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar- Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed [a] in heaven.” 20 Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.a

ROCK  PETROS  Small Rock  Peter’s name

ROCK  PETRA  A mass of ROCK  JESUS!!! (1 Cor 10:4)

Storm, Flood, and wind  Represent the TESTS we are going to experience in our walk with the LORD  1 Corinthians 10:13  13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

TEMPTATION VS TEST  PEIRAZO  tempt or test  To malaiciously test somebody  to try or test one's faith, virtue, character, by enticement to sin

Purposes of PEIRAZO  To prove and demonstrate your faith  To strengthen and prepare you for greater responsibility  To demonstrate God’s mercy, grace, and love in your life.

TEMPTATION VS TEST  DOKIMAZO  To test  to test, examine, prove, scrutinise (to see whether a thing is genuine or not), as metals

GOD our Foundation  If we believe in God and He is our foundation we would know that  He will limit the temptation/ testing in our lives to what we can only bear  He will provide an escape
