1 G-TEN Management and Administration
About G-TEN Semester 1, 2011 G-TEN, the Grampians Region Teacher Education Network, is a membership organisation offering a wide range of high quality professional learning designed to meet the needs of its members. Presenters are selected for the facilitation of G-TEN professional learning on the basis of their expertise in a given area. Some presenters are local, skilled teachers, while others work across the Region, State and sometimes nationally and internationally. G-TEN professional learning is offered in venues in Ballarat, Ararat and Horsham and some is available electronically. In designing the suite of programs offered, ideas are gained from G-TEN participant responses and also from the Networks in the Grampians Region to ensure the identified professional learning needs are addressed. 74 The Use of Restorative Practices
Outline Restorative practices provides a no blame approach to dealing with harmful behaviours. This approach represents a philosophy and a process that acknowledges when a person does harm it affects those they hurt and the school community as well as themselves. When all parties feel they have been listened to, issues are far more likely to be resolved and young people more willing to take responsibility for their behaviour. There is also no ongoing resentment as there is in a win/lose situation. The workshop will provide participants with a framework to use the approach and simple whole school strategies to introduce the concept.
