8 8 AMI System Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is a technology that allows reading of electric meters remotely without having to physically visit and manually read meters Before AMI, customer meters were manually read every two months Meter readers drove over 6 million km (3.7 million miles) in 2008! FortisAlberta utilizes Power Line Carrier (PLC) meaning all communication with meters travels along the power lines

10 10 Remote Connect Remote Connect/Disconnect Meters are special type of AMI meter that allows us to remotely Disconnect and reconnect a customers service Rolling out a Power line technician (PLT) can be costly – Average of $15/trip, $30 round trip, or $60 for a full disconnect and reconnect Benefits of being able to remotely disconnect a customer and more importantly reconnect a customer: Save two trips of a PLT driving out to remote site (Average $120) Cost to disconnect customer Cost to connect customer Quickly restore a customers power compared to having them wait the 24 hour SLA – increasing customer satisfaction
