3 La geografía The Pyrenees mountains separate Spain from France.
Tossa de Mar is a beautiful beach that attracts tourists from all over the world Los picos de Europa is a range of mountains 20 km (= mi.) inland from the northern coast of Spain.

4 La geografía Madrid is the capital of Spain. There is a very interesting monument in “Plaza de España” that is a tribute to Miguel de Cervantes and his famous book “Don Quixote”. Book Plot: “Don Quixote” is a retired country gentleman in his fifties, lives in an unnamed section of La Mancha with his niece and a housekeeper. He has become obsessed with books of chivalry, and believes their every word to be true, despite the fact that many of the events in them are clearly impossible. “Don Quixote” eventually appears to other people to have lost his mind from little sleep and food and because of so much reading. The Spanish Golden Age (Spanish: Siglo de Oro, Golden Century) period of flourishing in arts and literature in Spain in the 15th to 17th century. Don Quixote” is the most influential work of literature to emerge from the Spanish Golden Age. The book was published in 1605.

5 La geografía La Mancha is an arid, fertile, elevated plateau (610 m or 2000 ft.) of central Spain, south of Madrid. Thanks to Miguel de Cervantes, La Mancha is famous for its windmills Sevilla is a city in Spain famous for its festivities. One of the most famous festivities is “La Feria de Abril” and people celebrate by wearing traditional costumes. Andalucía is a region in Spain that exports olive oil to different parts of the world.

6 Las Celebraciones Citizens of Barcelona gather together in front of cathedrals to dance “La Sardana”. Sardana People in Galicia show their culture through many music festivals. The “Feria de Abril” in Sevilla is celebrated with vibrant colors, flowers and flamenco dresses. Flamenco “Las Castañuelas” are percussion instruments used in many typical Spanish dances. 7 La comida “La Paella" is the most traditional dish of Spain. It is a mixture of rice, meats and seafood. “La tortilla” is made of eggs and potatoes. It is not the same as the Mexican tortilla. La Plaza Mayor in Madrid is one of the favorite places to find a restaurant. Many locals and tourists go to have lunch there.

9 Ávila is surrounded by medieval city walls
La arquitectura Ávila is surrounded by medieval city walls “La Mezquita” reflects the arabic influence in Córdoba. Spain was occupied by the moors for over 700 years.

10 El arte Las cuevas de Altamira are caves in Santillana, Spain that have prehistoric art. La Infanta Margarita, is a painting by Diego Velázquez ( ), and it is found in el Museo del Prado en Madrid. The Spanish painter Joan Miró( ) often painted dreamlike images. He frequently used the colors blue, red, yellow, green and black.
