Baugh House Spring ’91, 2 nd Yr. Project Project Parameters A project involving the research and emulation of a renown architect with connections to the Bauhaus Architectural Movement. The project started by researching several renown architects from a given list as a small group. Then we chose one Architect that the group would emulate for our individual design exercises. We were to design a bird house as if we were that architect, using our knowledge of his or her partí, and drawing on the collective knowledge of the group for critiques of our designs throughout the process. Key Concepts: Detail, Context, Form, Emulation, Order, Usable Architect of emulation: Mario Botta 5 Weeks Construction Time: 5 Hrs

Campus Intervention Fall ’92, 4th Yr. Project Project Parameters A Design Project involving the emotion or spiritual aspects of design. The intent of this project was to explore a site on campus for it’s emotional properties and then create an intervention which would play on those properties in either an antagonistic or synergistic way. Presentation: (4) 16” x 16” boards, (1) site exploration and abstraction piece, (2) presentation drawings, (1) final site model Key Concepts: Imagery, Quality, Contemplative, Context, Experiential 5 Weeks Drawing & Construction: 20 Hrs

Toppenish Housing Spring ’93, 4th Yr. Project Project Parameters An Urban Design project involving the design of an urban housing project in Toppenish, Washington, focusing on real world issues involved in the development of multifamily ethnic housing for migrant and sedentary farm workers in an ethnically rich and diverse environment Key Concepts: Clusters & Courtyards, Ethnically Identifiable, Low Rise Medium Density, Seasonal, Climatic Conditions, Affordable Presentation included the design, layout, and production of three (3) hand drawn 18” x 24” boards to be presented in front of the class with a brief explanation of your work. 7 Weeks Presentation Time: 25 Hrs

Candle Holder Personal Project, Fall ‘93 Project Parameters An extra-curricular design exercise for a home furnishing item I conceived in my spare time. Stainless steel and Machined Aluminum Approx. Size: 3” x 3” x 4.8” Key Concepts: Architectural, Form, Simplicity, Functional, Beauty Inspirations: Louis Kahn, Mario Botta 2 Hours Construction Time: 2 Hrs

Definition of Architecture Fall ‘93, 5th Yr. Project Project Parameters A project involving the design and construction of an abstract model designed to meet our interpretation of the “Definition of Architecture” Intent of the project was both as an exercise of self exploration and as practice at various techniques in model building. Key Concepts: Abstract Art, Evolution, Expression, Protection, Maintainable, Part(s) of the Earth 5 Weeks Construction Time: 5 Hrs

Ideal Building: Conceptual Fall ’93, Fifth Yr. Project Project Parameters An exercise involving the design and construction of an abstract model that meets the goals of the “ideal Building” situation as defined by the class in an informal discussion The intent of this project was as an exercise of self expression, model construction practice, and as a preliminary exercise for a following project Key Concepts: Rhythm, Transparency, Structural Expression, Green Space, Circulation, Open Space, MEP Concepts 2 Weeks Construction Time: 20 Hrs

Project Parameters The design of an Intermodal Transport Facility housing one million square feet of multi-use space allotted primarily for research. Project was to incorporate surface parking for 1500 cars, two helipads and access to a subway 70’ below grade on a site with a 5% slope located near two intersecting freeways. Primary structure includes one million square feet of flex space with expansion potential of an additional one million square feet. Design genesis based on previous project, “Ideal Building: Conceptual.” Key Concepts: Form, Flexibility, Green space, Openness, Expandability, Natural Lighting 5 Weeks Construction Time: 32 Hrs Intermodal Transport Facility Fall ’93, Fifth Yr. Project

Project Parameters This project involved the design and construction of a site model for the Intermodal Transport Facility project as it would appear when fully expanded to two million square feet of occupiable space. Design genesis based on previous project, “Ideal Building: Conceptual.” Key Concepts: Simplicity, Conceptual, Expansion Realized, Drainage, Form, Landscape 2 Weeks Construction Time: 8 Hrs Intermodal Transport Facility: Site Model Fall ’93, Fifth Yr. Project

A Major League Ball Park for Portland Spring ’94, 5th Yr. Thesis Project Project Parameters A forty two thousand seat state of the art Major League Ball Park to be located in Portland Oregon. This facility houses a players club, sponsors lounge, multilevel public restaurant with sports bar, office spaces, and multi-level covered private parking for all franchise personnel. It also incorporates covered seating for over twenty thousand fans, a real grass playing surface, and state of the art athletic facilities for the players.
