Draft FOUO - Not for Public Release 3 CADs and PADs Defined CAD – Cartridge Actuated Device PAD – Propellant Actuated Device The explosive devices that operates emergency and escape systems onboard military aircraft, eject bombs, and provide other mission critical functions. There are almost 1000 different CADs and PADs in the system Our customers include the Navy, Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and some foreign militaries. Draft FOUO - Not for Public Release 5 PROBLEM STATEMENT In May 2012 at the CAD/PAD ILM, Hill AFB raised the problem: Navy SPIs should be readily available to other services on the web Suggested solutions: 1) Combine with USAF SPIRES (Special Packaging Instruction Retrieval & Exchange System) 2) Place all Navy SPIs on link that already exists on VFS 3) Link all Navy SPIs from NAVAIR 11-100 or some combo of all of the above

Wright Patterson AF Rep not willing to take risk for SPIs posted on SPIRES that are not maintained - lack of AF manpower for CM - lack of Navy accountability Action Taken: Updated SPIRES website with link to NOSSA and P700 websites and corrected Navy POC

Draft FOUO - Not for Public Release 7 POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS 2) Enter all CAD/PAD SPIs into CAD/PAD VFS - Funding to update VFS not currently available - Configuration Mgmt needed to maintain SPIs 3)Add link to SWO20-AC-SAF-010 (which includes all Navy SPIs) via NOSSA website to CAD/PAD VFS - NOSSA website does NOT require NMCI interface - Both VFS and NOSSA websites require registration - Need to pursue funding from Program to update VFS Most Feasible and Cost Effective Solutions!

Draft FOUO - Not for Public Release 9 POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS BIG PICTURE DEVELOP SEARCH TOOL - NATO’s Munitions Safety Information Analysis Center (MSIAC) developed AIMS – Advance IM Search - AIMS is a search engine that can look into multiple data bases for the test results that match the criteria - Could this idea be applied to accessing DOD packaging data? - Do other Programs have difficulty accessing SPIs? Is this issue widespread or only applicable to the CAD/PAD Program? - Who would take on task? Who would fund?
