2 Notes on Categories Used Regional tables More developed regions Northern America comprises Canada and the United States. Asia and Oceania comprises Australia, Israel, Japan and New Zealand. Europe comprises Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Countries in transition Countries in transition comprises Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Russian Federation, Slovakia, Slovenia, Tajikistan, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Yugoslavia. (1) The totals for each regional group include data and estimates for other small countries and territories not shown individually in Appendix III’s indicators tables. It should also be noted that the totals for ‘Less developed regions’ include data for Cyprus, Malta and Turkey, and do not double count data for the four countries (Djibouti, Mauritania, Somalia and Sudan) which belong to both the sub-Saharan Africa and the Arab States groups. (2) Data for China do not include Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
