Before an interview, you will have to fill out an application form. It will ask if “you consider yourself to have a disability”. You can choose to answer “yes”, “no” or “prefer not to say”. This information is not passed to the employer and therefore is not used in the interview selection process.

Before you start worrying about whether to tell anyone about your disability……you need to get the job !

First Impressions are important. Dress appropriately. Be polite and punctual. Relax. Take your time to answer. Don’t be afraid to say if you don’t know something or don’t understand.

Should you say anything about your disability? If the interviewer knows then they may ask questions about it. This can be a good thing because they could ask about the level of support you might need.

Your Strengths Think about your strengths as an individual. You might want to tell your interviewer what skills you have learnt through managing your disability. Explain how these skills make you a stronger candidate for the job.

If you have a positive attitude this will come over in the interview. If you believe in yourself and your abilities, your future employer will see this too. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Your interviewer will be impressed with your confidence.
