2 In 1964, Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life prison, to be set free in 1991 as the longest political prisoner of the time. December 5, 2013 NELSON MANDELA departs. DEATH IS NOT THE FAILURE OF LIFE BUT ITS CORONATION. His own defense at the Rivonia Trial of the Pretoria Supreme Court on 20 April 1964 was recorded, and part of it could be recovered!

3 Voice of Nelson Mandela’s own defense at trial on April 20, 1964 My Lord, I am the first accused. I admit, immediately, that I was one of the persons who helped to form Umkhonto we Sizwe. [Africans]… want a just share in the whole of South Africa. During my lifetime, I have dedicated my life to this struggle of the African people. It is an ideal for which I hope to live and to see it realized. But, My Lord, if it needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die. Homage by www.crscenter.com on December 5, 2013 to Nelson Mandela, forever with us.www.crscenter.com
