2 What Is MONAHRQ? Windows-based software from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to help you and your organization create your own healthcare reports and websites Evidence-based – uses measures, data sources, and reporting techniques that are based on research Quick – generates reports and websites in days, not months Easy – designed to be intuitive so no training is needed to use it Flexible – allows customization to ensure that the reports and websites are relevant Free – provided by AHRQ at no cost to anyone who wants to produce health care reports and websites The purpose of MONAHRQ is to help increase transparency by disseminating evidence-based information that is understandable and useful for improving health care safety, quality and affordability. 3 Who Uses MONAHRQ? Who uses the MONAHRQ software to create reports and websites? ► Hospitals, hospital systems and hospital associations ► State agencies ► Public health departments ► Business, community or multi-stakeholder alliances ► Others who are involved in health care quality improvement Who are the likely audiences or users of reports and websites created with MONAHRQ? ► Providers, such as hospitals, medical groups and others ► Patients, family members and the general public, including media ► State and local agency staff and others involved in public policy ► Researchers and analysts ► Private and public sector purchasers and payers, including health plans and self-insured employers and union trusts 3

4 What Value Can People Get from Reports Created with MONAHRQ? Patients, Family Members and Consumers Individuals can use public reports generated by MONAHRQ to learn about the experience of other patients, safety, quality and relative affordability of the hospitals in their area They can use this information to inform decisions and questions they ask as they become more effective partners in their health care Purchasers/Employers/Payers Public and private sector employers, purchasers, health plans and other payers can use MONAHRQ-generated reports to compare performance and use rates across specific hospitals within a region to assess relative safety, quality and affordability They can use this information to inform contract negotiations, reveal gaps to be addressed, and highlight top performers where best practices are being used and should be replicated by others 4

(continued) Hospital Leaders, Doctors and Other Providers Leaders at hospitals, medical groups, nursing homes and other provider organizations can use MONAHRQ-generated reports to compare performance and use rates in their own hospital, with partner hospitals or others in the region to assess relative safety, quality and affordability They can use this information to inform contract discussions, reveal where improvement is needed, and highlight top performers from whom they can learn about best practices Policy Makers Public and private sector officials involved in oversight and monitoring of health system performance can use MONAHRQ-generated reports to assess important aspects of hospital safety, quality, patient experience, cost and utilization They can use this information to focus attention on areas where improvement is needed, including identifying opportunities to reduce the overall cost of care in the region 5
