3 Peer Support: Transformative outcomes can be greatly enhanced when the person is inspired, encouraged and empowered by a person who has also “been there!” Adult Learning Patterns: When instruction is designed to accommodate how adults learn and retain information, then learning transfer and outcomes will be maximized!

6 Drafting a Wellness Vision Statement Taming our self sabotaging wild animal within Preparing to select and meet with a Primary Health Physician Completing a health screening to include checking blood pressure and, blood sugar, calculating body mass indicator (BMI), etc. Developing productive ways to deal with stress Learning how to use positive energy for better health and wellness

7 Building good relationship skills, including boundary setting and conflict resolution skills Gaining personal expertise in nutrition, including key knowledge about calories, sugars and fats Gaining some basic practice and skill in reading food labels and planning a healthy diet

8 Learning the secrets to physical activity and good rest Identifying three whole health goals to include in the treatment plan Building spiritual competencies and resources to contribute to overall wellness Preparing to co-facilitate the next Facing Up class

9 The workshop consists of two three-hour classroom sessions each week and one three-hour special physical / learning activity each week. One popular course schedule is Mon, Wed and Fri. The Facilitator workshop is one week. The overall length of the workshop is seven weeks.

10 The Facing Up workshop is highly interactive, fun and skill oriented. The instructional layout is centered on adult learning principles, maximizing adult retention rates. The instructional components include power points, video clips, music, edu-dramas and scheduled physical activities

11 I would certify Peer Support Specialists as facilitators in a one-week facilitator certification workshop so they can then facilitate the seven-week Facing Up workshops. Based upon our agreement with ROC, their facilitator agreements will be tied to their given agency.

12 People being served (including staff) getting healthier and living longer Delivers a fundamental move toward integration of the whole health and wellness initiative in an expansive way Begins first important steps in workforce development, including potential career ladder step for Peer Support Specialists as facilitators. Gives providers a value added billing service and program which will result in retention of people served Provides certification training for peers. Increases occurrences of direct recovery service (billing) by the peer and family who are facilitators
