Signs, Signals, and Pavement Markings
Road Sign Quiz . Each student should be provided with the answer sheet found on the last note page of this document. . The quiz will run in automatic mode after this slide is placed on the screen. . A mouse click or a forward button will put this into play. . Each sign or line system will be viewed for 0.3 second. . A camera click or chime will alert the participant to look at the screen. . A sign will appear and a chime wave and a curtain will be drawn over the sign. . The participant will have ten seconds to provide an answer on the answer sheet. . A camera click will alert the student of an impending sign. . The sign will appear after seven seconds of the camera click or chime. . This session is completed after 50 signs or markings appear. . The instructor will review the answers on the slides as provided. . The instructor may review the basic concepts of signs and lines at the end of this sequence. . PEP activities are included for your hands on learners and your popular personalities that like to talk and have fun with activity.

Signs Designed for Quick Recognition
. The summary of this lesson is designed to draw conclusions on the objectives above… . A leading question may be used… “What does the term redundancy mean to you?” . In most cases the students will not relate that each sign, signal, and marking is designed to provide information about traffic flow. Each sign gives the information some meaning in several ways to help the driver seek driving information that is critical. . Sign redundancy includes shape, then color, then symbolism, then text to provide information. Students should review a section of the Virginia manual for Drivers to see how this redundancy works in Virginia signs and markings. “For instance, what does a yellow line mean to a driver on the roadway?” . The yellow line primary function is to separate traffic lanes going in opposite directions while white lines separate traffic flow moving in the same direction. Colors have meaning Shapes have meaning Text and symbols provide information
