Legislation Workplace assessment (WA, APV)Workplace assessment (WA, APV) If chemicals are used the Workplace assessment must be supplied with a Chemical WAIf chemicals are used the Workplace assessment must be supplied with a Chemical WA Law concerning working with chemicals and mixtures thereofLaw concerning working with chemicals and mixtures thereof Law concerning carcinogenic compoundsLaw concerning carcinogenic compounds

Chemical WA sharpens the rules for registration of the hazard-classified chemicals which are used in the laboratoryChemical WA sharpens the rules for registration of the hazard-classified chemicals which are used in the laboratory

Definition of substances and mixtures Substances: Pure chemical compounds Mixtures (products or materials): Contain more than one substance

Workplace manuals are required: A)When substances and mixtures are used, which satisfy the criteria for classification as hazardeous according to the rules given by The Ministry of Environment B)When substances and mixtures are used, which are on the Threshold Limit List from the Danish Working Environmet Authority (GV-listen) C)When mixtures are used, which contain >= 1% of a substance mentioned in The Threshold Limit List – with a dust limit. (Exceptions: inert mineral dust, inert respirable mineral dust, total organic dust). (For gaseous materials >= 0,2%)

D) When materials are used which contain >= 1% of a compound which is classified as hazardeous or dangeous to the environment according to the rules given by The Ministry of Environment (for gaseous materials >= 0,2%) ___________________________________________________________ E) Stoffer og materialer omfattet af: (i) bek. 292 bliag III (epoxyharpikser og isocyanater). (ii) bek. 292, bilag IV (asfalt materialer). (iii) bek. 906 (kræft). (iv) bek 660 med ændringer (asbest). ___________________________________________________________ An increasing amount of entreprises chose to write workplace manuals to all chemicals. i.e. also chemicals which are not classified as hazardeous according to the rules mentioned above.

Workplace assessment (Mapping of potential problems) Chemical workplace assessment Workplace manual Workplace assessment Plan of action Material safety data sheet (MSDS) from suplier KIROS manual + Local information

Carcinogenic compounds If carcinogenic compounds are used, further rules apply: The manual must contain information about the carcinogenic risk by working with the substance The names of the substances must be mentioned in the manual The container must be marked: Indeholder et stof, der er omfattet af dansk arbejdsmiljøregulering med hensyn til kræftrisiko (contain a substance which is regulated by the Danish Working Environment Authorities concerning carcinogenic risk)

Chemical Workplace Assessment (APV) If there is hazardeous chemicals or materials on the workplace then the workplace assessment must contain the following assessment points: (1)The hazardeous properties of the substances and materials (2)The amount of exposure, type of exposure and how long it lasts (3)How the work with the hazardeous substances is performed including the used amount. (4)The effect of the precautions taken (5)If possible, the conclusions from the occupational medicine assessments (6)Threshold limits from The Danish Working Environment Authority (7)Material safety data sheet (MSDS) information concerning safety and health
