The GLP is a ground-breaking new programme which will create a national network of like-minded schools, committed to equipping their students to succeed in a globalised world by helping them to deliver effective teaching and learning about international development and global issues at Key Stages 2 and 3

6 The Global Learning Programme is funded by the Department for International Development Aims of the GLP Six aims: To help young people to understand their role in a globally-interdependent world and to explore strategies by which they can make it more just and sustainable To familiarise them with the concepts of interdependence, development, globalisation and sustainability

7 The Global Learning Programme is funded by the Department for International Development Aims of the GLP To move them from a charity mentality to a social justice mentality To stimulate critical thinking about global issues both at whole school and at student level To promote greater awareness of poverty and sustainability To enable schools to explore alternative models of development and sustainability in the classroom.

8 The Global Learning Programme is funded by the Department for International Development The GLP & development education Under the Global Learning Programme, the key themes of development education will be: knowledge of developing countries, their economies, histories and human geography knowledge of the basic elements of globalisation and knowledge of different ways to achieve global poverty reduction and the arguments around the merits of these different approaches

This vision is embedded through a planned process, involving staff, pupils, governors and the wider community in global activities. Whole-school focus

11 The Global Learning Programme is funded by the Department for International Development Target curriculum areas English, history, geography, maths and science Also citizenship and RE Working with subject associations to produce a knowledge framework for target areas Knowledge framework will link to KS2 & KS3 statutory curriculum and beyond to help teachers embed GL in teaching and learning

13 The Global Learning Programme is funded by the Department for International Development Programme model Primary, secondary and special Expert Centres (ECs) are funded to act as hubs for up to 23 partner schools ECs are funded to operate for four terms on a rolling basis to maximise geographical coverage over the 5 years Support provided by team of School Network Manager, 4 National Leaders and 17 Local Advisors

14 The Global Learning Programme is funded by the Department for International Development Programme model: EC Support ECs funded for up to 18 days of cover over 4 terms ECs will provide one support session (probably twilight) per half term e.g. Welcome/induction Embedding the GLP across the curriculum Successful strategies from other schools Local Advisors will run the support session with the GLP Coordinator who will lead the programme in each Expert Centre We anticipate that GLP coordinators in Expert Centres will aspire to Lead Practitioner status

17 The Global Learning Programme is funded by the Department for International Development Programme model: e-credits Partner schools access e-credits with a cash value of up to £500 to buy CPD from training providers Approved courses featured on the GLP website Schools select their courses, complete their contact details and click on the ‘book this course’ button Course providers then liaise directly with schools

Development Education Consortium designed and ran Shape the Future Competition for all UK secondary schools from January to March, 2013 5 schools presented their proposals to the Secretary of State on May 1 st 2013 at the House of Commons Winning school: Caroline Chisholm School, Northants http://globaldimension.org.uk/news/item/17162
