In salt water, only 1/8 of the whole iceberg is above the surface. This leaves the remaining 7/8 underwater. Example 1: If an iceberg has a total volume of 1200 cubic meters (m 3) of ice. How much must be underwater? Volume underwater= total volume x 7 8 1200 m 3 x 7 = 1050 m 3 volume underwater 8 Remember to multiply first… then divide that number by 8
