6. Over revving your engine wastes fuel. Change gear at around 2000-2500rpm for optimum efficiency

7. Driving at 45-50mph in 5 th gear is the most fuel efficient speed to drive at. At speeds over 70mph vehicles use vast amounts of fuel.

9. Unnecessary weight means the engine has to work harder so take those golf clubs out! Roof racks create air resistance and increase fuel consumption

10. Open the windows or use an eco setting if it’s really needed, however… If travelling at high speeds having your windows open will create extra drag.

11. Check tyre pressure every week and before long journeys. Ensure the vehicle is fully serviced regularly. Poorly maintained vehicles can mean the engine has to work harder and use more fuel.
