2 Bell in a nutshell Alexander Graham Bell was born on 3rd March 1847
He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland He didn’t have the middle name, Graham, until he was 11 years old He got it for his birthday When he was 23, Bell and his parents moved to Canada He was a scientist He died on 2nd August 1922, when he was 75

3 Bell as a scientist Bell first became interested in the science of sound because both his mother and wife were deaf He eventually wanted to send voice signals down a telephone wire In 1876 he and Elisha Gray both filed patents There was a debate about who got there first but the patent was awarded to Bell Bell’s first words on the device were to his assistant Watson.

4 Other bell inventions The metal detector – He invented this to find a bullet inside President James Garfield Audiometer – A device used to detect hearing problems He also made a device to help find icebergs

5 Famous bell quotes A man owes very little to what he is born with - a man is what he makes of himself Before any thing else, preparation is the key to success

6 Fun Facts Bell’s nickname was Alec. His wife insisted on this
Every phone in North America was silenced for a short period when he died He became an excellent piano player when he was young
