2. Five key types of talk or TRIPE Transactional - used to make a transaction or get something done. Referential – used to provide information about something. Interactional – used for socialising. Phatic – small talk Expressive – conveying and describing feelings. TASK: Write down one example of each of the above.

7. Key Terms Reporting clause – e.g. she said, he replied Free direct speech – when direct speech is presented without, or with minimal, reporting clauses such as ‘he said’. Direct speech – when speech is presented with reporting clauses
