1 Applying for the VT Multi- Sector General Permit. Step 1. Determine Your Facility’s SIC code. If you know your facility’s Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code you can: 1.Determine if you need to apply for the Multi-Sector General Permit. 2.Learn more about what is required if you must apply for coverage under the MSGP.

2 Determining your SIC code! Look up your facility’s SIC code on the internet or Determine your NAICS code and convert it to an SIC code. There are two ways you can determine the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code for your facility:

3 Looking up your SIC code 1. To look up your SIC code, go to the US Department of Labor’s webpage Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) System Search. Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) System Search 2. Use the “Enter the search keyword(s)” option. Type a one or two word description of your industry. 3. Click on the submit button.

4 1. Try to summarize your business in a few words and type them in here. 2. Then click on submit. This is the first screen you’ll see if you follow the link on the previous slide. www.osha.gov/pls/imis/sicsearch.html

5 After clicking “submit”, a new screen appears that lists SIC codes and names. Double click on each one to learn more about the SIC code. SIC codes are listed here.

6 Choose the SIC code that best describes your facility. Record your selected SIC code. General description of common activities under this SIC code.

7 Looking up your SIC code 1. You may also determine your SIC code through the Dept of Labor’s Division structure: SIC Division Structure.SIC Division Structure 2. Scroll through the list to find your type of industrial activity.

9 Determine your NAICS code 1.If you know your facility’s North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code, you can use it to determine your SIC code. 2. With your NAICS code you can use the table found at the following link to convert it to an SIC code. NAICS Code Corresponding SIC Code Convert NAICS Code to SIC code

10 Summary If you think you may need to apply for the Multi-Sector General Permit, the first step is to determine your facility’s SIC code. The easiest way to determine your facility’s SIC code is using the internet. You can also convert the NAICS code found on other government forms to an SIC code.
