What do seeds and trees look like in your church, ministry or organisation? Your team may have well-defined goals that make it easy to identify them. If not, try to come up with one example of an effort you make on a regular basis (a seed) in the hope of achieving some desired result (a tree). Seed:Tree: SESSION 1 PROCESS TIME (Workbook pg4 q3)

SESSION 1 PROCESS TIME (Workbook pg4 q3) As you look back over the last few years in your organisation, how would you describe your seed-sowingboth in amount (how much youre attempting) and variety (how many different ways youre attempting to achieve that result)? Do you view conflict as constructive or destructive? Bill also shared that the biggest obstacle in resolving conflict is ourselves because we react without thinking. How do you typically react when confronted with conflict? Bill outlined four skills for successful negotiation. Think of the last conflict you were in. To what extent did you apply any of those skills? SESSION 2 - REFLECTION

SESSION 3 | JIM COLLINS GREAT BY CHOICE

Delegate Process Time 2012 Global Leadership Summit

Fanatic Discipline The first leadership behaviour Jim Collins discussed was Fanatic Discipline - a commitment to consistent and consecutive performance over time. SESSION 3 PROCESS TIME (Workbook pg16 q2)

SESSION 3 PROCESS TIME (Workbook pg16 q3) Empirical Creativity The second leadership behaviour Jim Collins described was Empirical Creativity – new solutions to problems and discipline to avoid foolish risks and unnecessary waste. How would you describe your organisation? We are all discipline and no creativity Our discipline helps us be more creative We are all creativity and no discipline Other Share with your team and make a list of creative ideas you would like to put through a disciplined process of testing within the next 12 months.

Productive Paranoia The third leadership behaviour Jim Collins named is Productive Paranoia - constantly preparing for the worst can help us be our best when the unexpected happens? 27 Delegate Process Time 2012 Global Leadership Summit

Craig Groeschel emphasised to older leaders that we need to be intentional about developing the next generation of leaders. 2 What programmes or strategies do you have in place to develop the next generation of leaders? How might you develop this further? SESSION 5 PROCESS TIME (Workbook pg26 q2)

SESSION 5 PROCESS TIME (Workbook pg26 q3) Older leaders were encouraged not to delegate tasks which create followers, but to delegate authority which creates leaders. Which category below do you identify with? What is a first step you can take to move toward delegating more authority? You may want to name a project you could assign to a younger person. We tend to delegate tasks – specifying the goal and the means to achieve it We tend to delegate authority – defining the goal but not the means

Three practical suggestions were given for creating opportunities for the generations to work together. Create ongoing feedback loops between those who are older and those who are younger Create specific mentoring moments Create opportunities for significant leadership development Is your team doing any of these already?
