12. Steps to Writing a Modal Scale 1. Write all the notes for the given scale with no accidentals. (Ex: G Locrian, write G – A – B – C – D – E – F – G) 2. Figure out the “white key” C pattern for the mode. (Ex: Locrian, write B – C – D – E – F – G – A – B) 3. Write out the Whole/Half pattern for the mode. (Ex: Locrian, write H – W – W – H – W – W – W) 4. Apply this pattern to the original scale to add accidentals. (Ex: G Locrian: G – Ab – Bb – C – Db – Eb – F – G)
