4 Our Intent is to:  explore the challenges we will face in building and operating a training system to produce 5 th generation pilots and address : what do we need to do to produce sufficient numbers of combat ready pilots in a cost and time effective manner? what are the required characteristics of the new training system? what are the HR implications of the future training system – trainee candidate pool, characteristics, numbers and quality?  explore different ways of doing business to ensure that all appropriate options are considered when defining, contracting and delivering our next generation Defence Pilot Training System.
