1 2013 Australian National Gymnastics Championships Our Athletes had a great time at the recent championships, the event started with some impressive tumbling by Makenzie Murphy to become the U 11’s Nationals Tumbling Champion, from there the event just got more and more exciting as each of our athletes showed off their skills and battled against Australia and New Zealand’s best in the sport. Makenzie went on to win the Bronze medal in the U 11s Double Mini event where our very own Courtney Holiday won the Silver medal, both Courtney and Makenzie battled it out in the U11’s Individual Trampoline finals and finishing 5 th and 6 th place respectively Pictured from left: Casey, Ben, Tara, Courtney and Makenzie Picture from the MacArthur Advertiser Ingleburn RSL Youth Club Gymnastics & Trampoline Division Newsletter – July 2013 Page 1/3 respectively. Ben McDermott became the U 13’s Nationals Individual Trampoline Champion after winning his 3 rd consecutive Gold medal at a National Championships with a spectacular trampoline routine, he did not end his competition there Ben also won 2 silver medals in U 13’s Double Mini and U 13’s Synchro Trampoline, Casey Baxter was also in fine form winning the Silver medal in U 11’s Synchro Trampoline and becoming a finalist in the U 11’s Double Mini event. Our youngest athlete Tara Middledorp put on an incredible display of courage after a tough scoring decision went against her in the U11’s Individual trampoline yet Tara bounced back and became a finalist in the u11’s Synchro Trampoline finishing in 4 th place over all. Let’s not forget Owen Gilbert one of the 2013 Gymnastics NSW Captains winning Silver in the Senior Men’s Synchro Trampoline, became a finalist in the Senior Men’s Double Mini finishing in 4 th place Owen then went on to compete in the Senior Team events winning Gold on Trampoline and Silver on Double Mini, Owen’s events were all over by day 2 of the 5 day championships yet Owen continued to attend every day to cheer on and support his fellow team mates. All our athletes showed great sportsmanship during these national championships and have made our club, their community and this wonderful state of ours very proud. NSW became overall winners of the 2013 National Championships in Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini, and second place in Synchro Trampoline. What an amazing week it was...
