6 Krakow is a place that must be visited, a place that you are bound to return to.

7 Krakow is a place that must be visited, a place that you are bound to return to.

8 It is one of few cities in the world where the historic past is harmoniously combined and intertwined

9 with the contemporary wealth of artistic, scholarly, business and social life.

10 For many centuries travelers from afar have come to Krakow lured by the city’s historical monuments,

11 unique atmosphere, great traditions, indefinable genius loci which made exceptional individuals

12 – artists, scholar and scientists as well as common people feel at home at the foot of Wawel Hill.

13 Krakow is a city of tradition effectively combining the achievements of the past with the character of a modern European metropolis.

14 Extensive development of the city’s transport and tourist infrastructure in conjunction with a large number of places of historic interest, museums,

15 art galleries, restaurants makes Krakow a friendly place its inhabitants and as well as visitors looking for unique and original locations.

16 Krakow is the most internationally recognized Polish brand name and is sometimes called “Athens of the North”, “Slavic Rome” or “Polish Jerusalem”.

17 Just like Venice or Paris it has its name in the majority of European languages. Its historic centre

18 was included in the 1st UNESCO World Heritage List published in 1978 and was named the European Capital of Culture in 2000.

19 Krakow is a magical place bustling with history, arts, architectural heritage and traditions,

20 filled with lyrical nostalgia, yet vibrant with the energy of ambitious young people

21 who continuously draw inspiration from it and see it as a challenge.

22 The Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the most valuable cultural monuments in Poland, visited each year by over a million tourists from around the world. WIELICZKA SALT MINE

23 It is also a world class historical monument and as such is inscribed in UNESCO's First World List of Cultural and Natural Heritage.

24 Today, the Wieliczka Salt Mine represents both many centuries of tradition and modernity, centuries of history, and an underground city with an extensive infrastructure.

25 The historic Salt Mine in Wieliczka is the only mining site in the world functioning continuously since the Middle Ages.

26 Its original excavations (longitudinals, traverses, chambers, lakes, as well as minor and major shafts)

27 are located on nine levels and extend for the total of about 300 kilometres:

28 reaching the depth of 327 metres they illustrate all the stages of mining technology development over time.

30 Staff in Computer Engineering Department at Technical University of Lodz (Poland)
4 Professors, 33 PhD, 20 PhD Students. Tomography team: 3 Professors, 11 PhD, 5 PhD Students.

31 The research program on process tomography has been initiated in the Department by Prof. Dominik Sankowski and Prof. Tomasz Dyakowski , in collaboration with Prof. Andrzej Pląskowski from the Warsaw University of Technology. The research carried out in the Department of Computer Engineering mainly focuses on development of new ECT designs (twin-plane systems, 3D sensors) new image reconstruction algorithms to increase spatial resolution, combine different modalities (for instance, g-ray tomography and ECT, Optical Tomography and ECT) and allow 3D measurements computing methods to calculate velocity with twin-plane system data interpretation of different powder flow phenomena (flow in pneumatic conveying and silos, hopper flow, flow of friable materials)

32 Most of the studies involve collaborations with national institutes:
Division of Nuclear and Medical Electronics, Warsaw University of Technology Department of Fundamentals of Building and Material Engineering, Technical University of Gdansk Departament of Heating Technique and Industrial Apparatus, Opole Technical University Warsaw Lodz Krakow Poznan Wroclaw Gdansk Czestochowa 300 km

33 .... and international institutes:
Department of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science, University of Manchester (UK) Department of Statistics, University of Leeds (UK) Department of Physics and technology, University of Bergen (Norway) Industrial Technology Division, Malaysian Institute for Nuclear Technology Research (Malaysia) Most of the research studies are supported by national and international grants (Polish State Comity of Science, EPSRC, Royal Society, IAEA) Łódź
