The current phase of the project is the feasibility study. A key part of that study has been to receive comments, questions and advice from the people of the church. The following list presents those comments, questions and advice and our responses to them. The next part of the feasibility study is to conduct a “Needs Analysis”. We will commence that Needs Analysis starting the second week of June. This process will be facilitated by an independent professional advisor. The Needs Analysis will involve discussions within the church and with the wider community to determine what (if anything) needs to be done to contribute to the Kalamunda Church of Christ’s mission of: “Building a Community that Impacts the World and Grows God’s Kingdom” and our vision of: Kalamunda Church of Christ is an “irresistible” Christian Community where people become fully devoted Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. The conclusion of the Needs Analysis will be to determine whether or not we need to build a new facility and if so, how it will look. The results of this work and recommendations will be presented to the congregation at the AGM in October. At the AGM, if a building is recommended, conceptual plans and costs will also be presented. If the congregation agrees to move forward with those plans, then detailed designs and approvals will be sought. Before committing to any construction (assuming that the needs analysis indicates it is appropriate), a special congregational meeting will be convened to congregational approval. Community on the Rise Update Community on the Rise Update Comments, Questions and Advice Received 1 June 2009 Comment/QuestionResponse Concern about the future of the manse (it was intended as a dwelling for a pastor who can't afford his own house - our current pastor is OK, but what of a future pastor?) The future role of the manse will be determined as part of the needs analysis – if we do not need the space for other requirements, it will stay as is. The manse is located on a parcel of land which is separate from the rest of the church property and is zoned differently. There would appear to be an advantage in amalgamating the properties regardless of any other modifications we may do to our facilities. We need to provide more offices and at least one more counselling room - for private practitioners - suggest an additional 6 offices. A second layout was prepared and presented in early April to suggest ways to address this and other concerns which have been raised. However, the needs analysis will determine whether there is a need for offices or counselling rooms and if so, how many and what size. Youth area needs to have a 4 metre high ceilingThe second layout mentioned above provides for this. However, the needs analysis will determine whether there is a need for a youth area and if so, what ceiling height would be appropriate. Counselling room is too big. But would be ideal for a boardroom or small seminar room. The needs analysis will determine whether there is a need for counselling rooms and if so, how many and what size would be appropriate. Counselling room is too big. But would be ideal for a boardroom or small seminar room. The Counselling room shown on the first and second layouts is big enough for a small seminar or group therapy sessions (similar to the group rooms used for that purpose at Holyoake in Victoria Park). One of the offices would probably be appropriate for one-on-one or couples sessions. The needs analysis will determine whether there is a need for counselling rooms and if so, how many and what size would be appropriate. Why do we need to build a new building? What we have now is just fine – we could make the necessary repairs for 10% of the cost of a new building The needs analysis will determine whether there is a need for a new building. If it is determined that our existing buildings will meet the needs, they will be repaired and refurbished.

Community on the Rise Update Community on the Rise Update Comments, Questions and Advice Received 1 June 2009 (Page 2) Comment/QuestionResponse Youth area needs to have a kitchen. The second layout provides for this. However, the needs analysis will determine whether there is a need for this and how it can be accommodated. Youth area should be expandable into the Children’s area – both groups will not be running together. The needs analysis will confirm whether there is a need for this. This suggestion can be accommodated by placing a removable wall between the Youth and Children’s areas (similar to what is often used at commercial conference centres). Youth area needs to have a 6 metre high ceilingThe needs analysis will confirm whether there is a need for this. This would probably be a very expensive item, but if the needs analysis confirms that it is justified, designs will accommodate it. Coffee area and seminar area need to be partitioned off. The second layout provides for this. However, the needs analysis will determine whether there is a need for a coffee area and/or a seminar room and whether or not it would be appropriate to partition them off. Can the seminar area be partitioned further for smaller groups The second layout provides for this. However, the needs analysis will determine whether there is a need for this. This suggestion can be accommodated by placing a removable wall between the Coffee and Seminar areas (similar to what is often used at commercial conference centres). Can Pastor Pete have an office with a view!!We would love for Pastor Pete to have a office with a view, However, the needs analysis will determine etc etc.
