7 Successful Learners, Confident Individuals, Responsible Citizens, Effective Contributors HMYOI POLMONT Houses all Remand, Short term, Long Term, Life, Sex Offender young people age 16-21 years in Scotland Capacity 760 Current numbers: 550 Current 16-18yrs numbers: 55 = 10% of population Violent Incidents: average 8-11 per week Minority carried out by 16-18yrs 42 Incidents of Violence in January 2014 3 Incidents involved weapons

Set up a Community Safety Unit Driven by SPS Anti-violence Strategy Underpinned by the 16 National Outcomes Change of Name Staffing: 1 Manager and 2 Officers Partnership working: Youth Group Barnardos, VRU, MAV, Respect Me, SFRS…. Tackling violence and conflict within the Prison Educating and developing coping skills for alternatives to violence

9 Successful Learners, Confident Individuals, Responsible Citizens, Effective Contributors What is HMYOI Polmont doing to implement Restorative Practices? 2006 Partnership agreement with SACRO 2013 refresher training in Restorative conversations & meetings 22 Staff trained to date 12 Staff due to complete in March 2014 6 staff due to complete Training for trainers in Restorative conversations in April 2014 From December 2013 40 cases out to referral for RJ Meetings 14 cases completed 8 successful 4 Not suitable 2 Liberated

Strategy document to be agreed and signed off by board Possible appointment of Senior Manager at HQ HMYOI Polmont staff continue to use RJ to repair harm Leaders in field for Prison based Restorative Practices Champions will be further skilled Conferences Family group conferencing Circles
