They fought with the American colonist.A patriot force led by Abraham Buford and a loyalist force led by Banastre Tarleton. After the reports of Banastre ignoring the surrender of Buford's troops, the American colonist began calling it “The Waxhaw Massacre”.

The colonists and native Americans had not gotten along. Their interaction was not anywhere near peaceful. The had wars one called “The Waxhaw massacre.

Although some Native Americans were able to escape the removal. Congress authorized $500,000 to carry out this act, and the pace of removal accelerated dramatically. Treaties negotiated in the aftermath of the War of 1812 had already reduced the Native American population.
