2. How do Students join STLP? Goal 2 STLP will provide leadership opportunities for all students How students sign up? We have several different ways to be involved in STLP and they sign up through the participating teacher. When does STLP meet? The time varies depending on the project. Yearbook usually meets in the evenings, but we do have an intervention/club time on Tuesdays and Thursdays when most of the projects occur.

8. North Hardin High School News Broadcasts Goal 1 The STLP will develop activities which enhance the academic, social and emotional growth of the student. Goal 2 The STLP will provide leadership opportunities for all students. The School Name news team produces a daily broadcast for the school each morning. STLP members serving on the news crew arrive at school 30-40 minutes early to work on the daily broadcast. The crew consists of students from all grade levels, with older students training younger students.

10. Goal 5 The STLP will develop activities which benefit communities The NHHS news broadcasts provides a forum for communities events ranging from performances at the PAC, to community wide events such as blood drives, Walk-For-Life, and the school’s recycling program.

Example We have just begun a small STLP group of 4 students. They are learning to use the various technologies in the school. The hope is they can assist teachers in using the equipment. They are currently working on using the Promethean Boards and ActivInspire software. Teachers are starting to see these students as useful resources and asking for their assistance in the classroom. We hope the group will grow larger in the next year.

Building computers for students in need (NICHE North Involved with Computers for Home Education ) Goal 1 The STLP will develop activities which enhance the academic, social, and emotional growth of the student. Example We have a group of STLP students that have begun building computers for families unable to afford a computer. Most of the students have taken computer classes in the past and have some prior knowledge. They help the younger students that has not had as much experience working with computers. Students have learned the basic functioning components of a computer and will soon have the privilege of giving the computer to a family.

13. Students plan for new wireless labs Goal 6 The STLP will develop instructional activities which integrates technology and benefits the school and supports KETS. The STLP students unboxed laptops and helped connect them to the new laptop cart that will rotate to the different math classes. The students enjoyed working together to figure out how laptops fit best into the cart and also figured out a checkout system for the teacher to keep track of which students used each laptop.

14. Projects that provide services to community. These could be anything from making business cards for police, fire and other agencies, to can drives for the needy. We have a large school initiative for recycling. Each classroom has recycling bins and various clubs take turns collecting the recycling on Fridays.
