4 It broadens your skills, knowledge, and outlook You experience a different educational system It is good for your English It adds value to your degree It gives you skills which are useful in employment, and adds to your employability You will enjoy the experience of living in a different country, a different culture and making new friends It helps build links between countries 1. Why study overseas

5 You can contribute new things to UMY classes when you return Surveys show that 80-90% of students who go overseas on a student exchange rank it very highly, and for many it is a transformative experience

You become so much better academically, socially, and in every way. Types of student mobility/ international study experiences Undertaking a degree overseas Articulation/dual degrees, e.g. 2+2 years Student exchange (1-2 semesters) Short courses: o Summer/Winter Schools o Study tours led by academic staff o Specially designed courses Field work or research work overseas Placements/internships

8 3. Student exchanges between Indonesia and Australia A student exchange: a)Is 2-way: students go in both directions, in roughly equal numbers b)Is for credit towards the student’s degree c)The student is not charged tuition fees by the host university

9 8 of Indonesia’s nearly 500 universities have student exchanges with Australian universities: UGM (with 4 partners), UI (3), UBAYA (2), Atma Jaya Jakarta, BINUS, ITB, UNPAR, UPH This year the Australian Government funds 18 Indonesian university students to go on exchange to Australian universities, and 16 Aussie students to come to Indonesia on exchange This is through A$5,000 International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) scholarships for each student

11 5. Tips 1.English language proficiency is an issue: o ITP is not accepted o Minimum band scores are also required o English language levels of Indonesian students
