10 Deployment Scenarios

11 VMware View Manager Deployment Scenarios
Single View Manager Connection Server Deployment Useful for smaller deployments, POCs or testing View Connection Server is installed as a Standard Virtual Desktops running on ESX VirtualCenter Active Directory View Manager Connection Server View Manager Client Web-based Administration 11

12 VMware View Manager Deployment Scenarios
Multi-Server View Manager Connection Server Deployments First View Connection Server is installed as a standard Second View Manager Connection Server is installed as a replica. Datastore from the initial standard is replicated to the replica Once operational, both are master servers Changes made on any server are automatically replicated to others

13 VMware View Manager Deployment Scenarios
Multi-Server View Manager Connection Server Deployments First View Connection Server is installed as a standard Second View Connection Server is installed as a replica. Datastore from the initial standard is replicated to the replica Once operational, both are master servers Changes made on any server are automatically replicated to others Subsequent replica servers can be installed for added scalability and redundancy. All servers in a group are masters

14 VMware View Manager Deployment Scenarios
Multi-Server View Connection Server Deployment Virtual Desktops running on ESX VirtualCenter Active Directory View Manager Connection Servers Load Balancing VMware View Manager is architected to scale horizontally. This design provides for both large-scale enterprise deployment and high availability. Third-party load-balance solutions can be used to direct client requests to the View Connection Servers. The View Connection Servers expose their current status to allow this load balancing. The View Manager Agents, running in the virtual desktops, communicate with the View Connection Server infrastructure using publish-subscribe messaging on a highly-scalable JMS bus. This ensures that virtual desktops are NOT tied to a specific View Connection Server. A user can connect to any available virtual desktop, regardless of the View Connection Server used to enter the system.

15 VMware View Manager Deployment Scenarios
View Connection Server – Remote Access Virtual Desktops running on ESX VirtualCenter Active Directory View Manager Client View Manager Connection Servers View Manager Security Servers DMZ Load Balancing When deploying standalone View Security Servers as a front-end to View Connection Servers, a one-to-one relationship is established. Each View Security Serveracts as the front-end to a specific View Connection Server. Communication between View Connection Server and View Manager Agent is not altered by presence of standalone Security Servers. Tunneled SSL connections is on by-default and is a global configuration setting. If there is a need for Direct Connect desktops inside the trusted network. A separate group of VD Connection Servers should be deployed.

16 VMware View Manager Deployment Scenarios
View Connection Server – Remote Access Outer firewall – Rules – Example Source Protocol Port Destination Notes Security Servers TCP 443 (or 80) 443 (HTTPS) by default, 80 (HTTP) if SSL is disabled Inner firewall – Rules – Example Source Protocol Port Destination Notes Security Servers TCP 8009 Related Connection Server Forwarded web traffic (AJP) 4001 JMS connection 3389 Desktop VMs Forwarded RDP traffic from client to desktop VMs. These are provided as an example. Rule terminology will vary between firewall appliances Granularity of the firewall rules will vary from deployment to deployment Communication needs to be two way between source and destination

17 VMware View Manager Deployment Scenarios
Multi-Server LAN and DMZ Deployment View Manager Security Servers DMZ Load Balancing View Manager Connection Servers Virtual Desktops running on ESX VirtualCenter Active Directory View Manager Client (Remote SSL Tunnelled) View Manager Client (Internal – Direct Connect) Load Balancing This deployment scenario is an example of Remote Clients that are SSL tunneled connections and internal clients that are using Direct Connect to Desktop. Because SSL tunneling is a global configuration setting, separate View Connection Servers should be deployed and load balanced to handle direct connections. If all connections, remote or internal are using SSL tunneling the View Connection Servers with the 1:1 association to the View Security Servers could also be used to handle internal connection requests.
