1 Technology Plan for PJ PAC General Meeting – November 20, 2013 PARENT PROPOSAL

2 PJ’s Technology Committee Committee members that collaborated on the development of this proposal are: Administration: Chantal Trudeau, Chris Parslow Teachers: Jordan Lincez and Louise Welsh Parent Volunteers: Nicole Brown, Mat Burke, Paul Gagnon, Pam Meneguzzi and Monika Wilson

3 Vision To support the development of innovative learning and teaching using technology. To catch up to PJ’s peers in neighbouring schools and embrace best practices. Seek input from teachers, administration, parents and SD45 to develop an ambitious, yet realistic plan that will meet our students’ needs.

4 How Technology Enhances Student Learning: 1)Supports inquiry based learning 2)Increases student engagement 3)Improves literacy skills – including digital literacy 4)Supports French language acquisition

5 New Terminology Bring Your Own Device Students bring their own devices to school. Storage carts will be purchased to ensure they are secure. Students who can not bring a device, or forget theirs at home, will be able to sign one out from the school. “BYOD”

6 New Terminology Learning Commons The Computer Lab is the last of its kind in the District. The desktop computers are at end of life and will be removed. The space will be transformed to work more closely with the library as a place for teaching, learning and research by individuals or groups. Home of the the multimedia centre. A shared resource for all grade K-7

9 From K through 7 Primary iPADS for K-3 Min. of 6 per class Tablets with touch screens are easy for young children to use Great selection of educational apps Intermediate BYOD for Gr 5-7 Ensure students are confident/comfortable using technology effectively and ethically Students working more independently and able to complete creative projects using technology Upper Intermediate LAPTOPS for Gr 4 30 shared by 2 classes and some use by Gr 3 Intro to laptop care, keyboard and mouse commands, USB drives and other common applications/protocols Easier for teachers to instruct if students are on the same type of device

12 PAC’s Financial Support Currently, PAC can allocate approximately $35,000 towards the plan with current funds in our budget and reserves. Ideally, we would like to meet the $50,000 target and move all our students forward in one phase. PAC is considering a cheque writing campaign to raise the remaining $15,000 before the end of the year. Contributions would be tax receiptable.
