JUST READ! Polar Ascent… a JUST READ! Activity. Brunskill School/KCC

JUST READ! Just Read! The goal of Just Read! is to increase the amount of time students (teachers and parents, too!) spend reading outside of class time.

JUST READ! People who read more… …read better. …have a larger vocabulary. …write better. …enjoy life and deal with life much better as they encounter the world in their reading.

JUST READ! Polar Ascent… a JUST READ! activity. Each student will receive a reading log book next week for the months of January and February.

Each day students record the number of 15-minute units and that they read outside of class time and have a parent initial it. When books are completed, those numbers are also recorded. ALSO… if your parents record their leisure reading time… YOU GET DOUBLE UNITS FOR THEIR TIME!!! JUST READ! Polar Ascent… a JUST READ! activity.

What reading counts? Age-appropriate books. Books read to students count. Fiction and non-fiction books count. Comics, magazines, VCR instruction magazines, etc. do not count.

Each Monday, teachers will tally the units and books. Mr. Kikcio will tally the numbers for our school. JUST READ! Polar Ascent… a JUST READ! activity.

Mr. Perkins will tally the units and move us up Mt. Everest in the library. JUST READ! Polar Ascent… a JUST READ! activity.

The class with the greatest number of reading units by the end of February will get to choose an in-city activity, e.g. swimming, rollerblading, bowling, speed skating, etc. Other incentives will be announced to acknowledge readers. JUST READ! Polar Ascent… a JUST READ! activity.

Remember… There’s SNOW better time to read! JUST READ!
