Acts, Our History Book

“…The book is designed for the enlightenment of Christians generally concerning the historic origins of Christianity. It is in truth the first church history. It is in reality the Acts of the Holy Spirit as wrought through these men. It is an inspiring narration…” (ISBE., Vol. 1, pg. 46.)

Acts, Our History Book Change to the gospel is forbidden (Gal. 1: 6-9, Rev. 22: 18, 19, I Cor. 4: 6). The gospel or the faith was once delivered and is to serve as our creed (Jude 3).

4 “Set for the Defence of the Gospel” (Phili. 1: 7, 17) ‘Apologia, a speech made in defence” (Vine). “Apologia, literature, a work written as an explanation or justification of one’s motives, convictions, or acts” (RHCD).

In Acts we see how the Great Commission was fulfilled (Mark 16: 15, 16; Acts 1: 8, 2: 14-47, 8: 35, 28: 30, 31).

Acts, Our History Book Acts reveals attitude toward discipline (Acts 5: 1-11, cp. 2 Thes. 3: 6).

Acts, Our History Book Acts provides insight as to public worship (Acts 2: 42, 46, 4: 4: 31, 20: 7).

Acts, Our History Book We see in Acts the independent structure of local churches (Acts 14: 23).

Acts, Our History Book The lesson of qualified men for certain assignments is observed in Acts (Acts 6: 3).

Acts, Our History Book The fact that doctrinal issues were addressed and how these matters were handled is seen in Acts (Acts 15)

Acts, Our History Book Fellowship is presented in Acts (Acts 2: 42, 9: 26, 27, cp. I John 1: 3, 7).

Acts, Our History Book Instances of how the physical needs of saints were met are seen in Acts (Acts 4: 32-37, 11: 27-30).

Acts, Our History Book Just as America is rejecting the heritage of her history; so is the Lord’s church, in many instances. Instead of attempting to become “modern,” we must remain with the pure gospel as exemplified and practiced in Acts. “For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God” (Acts 20: 27, vs. 28-32).
